The 2018 Nissan Titan XD standout between a light-duty and heavy-duty trucks in terms of price and capabilities. With a wide range of trim levels and a strong diesel engine option, it’s a unique truck that offers something its competitors don’t.

The 2018 Nissan Titan XD is a full-size pickup that sold in five trim levels: S, SV, Pro-4X, SL and Platinum Reserve. All trim is available with a crew cab 6.5-foot bed. The work-focused S and SV trims are also available with a single cab and an 8-foot bed. The S, SV and Pro-4X trims extended-cab variant are offered with the 6.5-foot bed.

The 2018 Nissan Titan XD offers two different engine options. A standard 5.6-liter gasoline V8 engine that makes 390 horsepower and 394 pound-feet of torque or a turbocharged 5.0-liter diesel V8 engine good for 310 hp and 555 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard on all except for the Pro-4X, which comes standard with a four-wheel-drive system (4WD) and optional on the others. The gasoline V8 engine is mated to a seven-speed automatic, while diesel-powered gets a six-speed automatic transmission.

In track testing, the diesel-powered 2018 Nissan Titan XD Platinum Reserve 4WD accelerates from zero to 60-mph time of 9.6 seconds, which is slower than most gas-powered V8 trucks. But torque and towing are what the 2018 Nissan Titan XD diesel is all about. The S 4×2 has 12,314 pounds of towing capacity or 2,091 pounds of payload, while the Platinum Reserve 4WD can tow 10,610 pounds or haul 1,470 pounds. The versatile Pro-4X can tow 11,784 pounds or tote 1,733 pounds of payload.

Thanks to an 80-hp advantage and all-aluminum construction, the 5.6-liter gasoline V8 markedly quicker. In track testing, the gasoline-powered 2018 Nissan Titan XD went to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds. The weight reduction also enables another benefit: additional payload capacity. With this engine, the Titan XDs can carry as much as 2,594 pounds of payload. But it still can’t tow as much as the diesel. The gasoline S 4×2 tops the list at 11,270 pounds.

The 2018 Nissan Titan XD price list: S starts at $33,335 (including destination), SV $37,235, Pro-4X $47,275, SL $50,705 and Platinum Reserve $56,075.
