There have been many Japanese cars produced for the American market in the last half-century, most of them can only be remembered for their huge numbers. A small group, like the Nissan, Z has achieved true icon status. Originally sold as a Datsun, the Nissan Z offers a blend of style, performance and special value from the start. The 2018 Nissan 370z Coupe represents the sixth generation and continues this tradition.
The 2018 Nissan 370z Coupe is a two-seat sports car that sold in base, Sport, Sport Tech, Touring and Nismo Tech trims levels.
The 2018 Nissan 370z Coupe is powered by a 3.7-liter V6 engine that produces 332 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. That power sent to the rear wheel via a six-speed manual transmission. On Sport and Sport Tech, the gearbox includes SynchroRev Match, a driver-selectable mode that automatically blips the throttle during downshifts to deliver smooth gear changes. A seven-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift capability and downshift rev-matching is optional. Steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles are included on all automatic-equipped models except for the base trim.
In track testing, the 2018 Nissan 370z Coupe with a manual transmission accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds. It’s as fast as the six-cylinder Camaro and about a second quicker than the Subaru BR-Z or Mazda Miata.
EPA fuel economy rating at 22 mpg combined (19 city/26 highway) with the automatic and 21 mpg combined (18 city/26 highway) with the manual transmission.
The 2018 Nissan 370z Coupe Nismo Tech gets a specially tuned version of the V6 engine that makes 350 hp and 276 lb-ft of torque. The six-speed manual transmission with SynchroRev Match is standard, with the seven-speed automatic available as an option. In track testing, the 370Z Nismo Tech with manual-transmission went to 60 mph from zero in 5.2 seconds, a disappointing performance given the exclusive engine tune.
The 2018 Nissan 370z Coupe price list: base $30,875, Sport $34,455, Sport Tech $37,955, Touring $40,475 and Nismo Tech $48,075. All prices include the $885 destination fee.
