Three-row crossover SUV is a practical choice for a lot of families, but many of the models in this class seem pretty boring. If that’s your opinion, then Mazda offers an alternative: the stylish and sporty CX-9.
Whichever trim you choose, the 2018 Mazda CX-9 punches above its price range. It offers what most SUV owners want: high level of comfort, plenty of space and modern technology. With three rows of seats and a list of features to meet family needs, the 2018 Mazda CX-9 is one of the best large crossovers out there. But it’s more than just a pretty face, it’s also fun-to-drive.
The 2018 Mazda CX-9 is seven passengers, three-row crossover SUV. It’s available in Sport, Touring, Grand Touring and Signature trim levels.
Under the hood, the 2018 Mazda CX-9 is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque on standard gasoline. A six-speed automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels. All-wheel drive is available as an option for all except for the Signature, which comes standard with AWD. Also standard for this year is a Mazda G-Vectoring Control, a new electronic system that the company says improves steering and stability in turns.
In track testing, the 2018 Mazda CX-9 Signature went from zero to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds, about average for this class.
The EPA estimates for fuel economy are 24 mpg combined (22 city/28 highway) with front-wheel-drive and 23 mpg combined (20 city/26 highway) for the AWD. These numbers are better than average among other three-row SUVs. Properly equipped, the 2018 Mazda CX-9 can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
The 2018 Mazda CX-9 price list: the Sport $33,070, Touring $35,900, Grand Touring $41,410 and Signature $45,255.
