The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a five-passenger midsize SUV that sold in seven trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, SRT and Trackhawk.
Every 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee is backed by a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 295 horsepower and 260 lb-feet of torque. Optional for the Limited, Trailhawk, Overland and Summit models is a 5.7-liter V8 good for 360 hp and 390 pound-feet of torque. The Grand Cherokee’s turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel-powered V6 (240 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque) could also be optional for 2018. The SRT comes standard with a 6.4-liter V8 that produces 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard across the board.
New for 2018 is the high-performance Trackhawk models. Its powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that generates 707 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque.
Except for the SRT and Trackhawk, every the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee come standard with rear-wheel drive. But these models also offer three available 4WD systems: the single-speed, light-duty Quadra-Trac I system (Laredo only), Quadra-Trac II with a two-speed transfer case (Laredo, Limited, Overland and Summit) and Quadra-Drive II with a rear electronic limited-slip differential (Limited, Trailhawk, Overland and Summit). An adaptive air suspension (Quadra-Lift) and a driver-selectable traction control system that adjusts to different terrain are also available (optional on 4WD Limited, standard on 4WD Trailhawk, Overland and Summit).
The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and Trackhawk comes standard with a specialized all-wheel-drive system tuned more for high-performance driving.
In track testing, the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk accelerates from zero to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds. The SRT did it in 4.6 seconds. A Grand Cherokee Summit 4WD with the diesel engine hit 60 mph in 7.7 seconds.
EPA fuel economy estimates at 21 mpg combined (19 city/26 highway) for V6 2WD and (21/18/25) with 4WD. The diesel rated at (25/22/30) for 2WD and (24/21/28) for 4WD. The V8 engine at (17/14/22), while the SRT at (15/13/19) for 4WD. The Trackhawk return (13/11/17).
Properly equipped, the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee maximum towing capacity with the gasoline V6 is 6,200 pounds. Towing capacity for the 5.7-liter V8 tops out at 7,400 pounds. The towing capacity for the diesel V6 is the same as for the 5.7-liter V8. The Grand Cherokee SRT and Trackhawk can tow up to 7,200 pounds.
