The 2018 Jeep Cherokee is a small crossover SUV sold in five trim levels: Latitude, Latitude Plus, Limited, off-road-focused Trailhawk and Overland.
The 2018 Jeep Cherokee are powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 184 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. The optional 3.2-liter V6 engine makes 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission is the only transmission offered.
Front- or four-wheel drive is available for both engine, but Trailhawk is 4WD-only. There are two 4WD systems available. Standard on four-wheel-drive Sport, Latitude and Limited is the light-duty Active Drive I 4WD system, which requires no input from the driver, though it does come with a Selec-Terrain dial that has different terrain modes. Optional on the Limited and standard on the Trailhawk and Overland is the Active Drive II system, which features a locking rear differential, low-range gearing and an additional Rock mode for the Selec-Terrain dial.
In track testing, the 2018 Jeep Cherokee Limited V6 with Active Drive I accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds, a good performance for a small crossover with an upgraded engine. The 2018 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk V6 did it in 8.0 seconds.

The 4WD version stands at 23 mpg combined (21 city/28 highway), while the Trailhawk at (22/19/25). The V6 rated at 24 mpg combined (21 city/29 highway) for FWD and (23/20/27). The Trailhawk V6 return (21/18/24).
The optional towing package gives V6 models a healthy 4,500-pound towing capacity.
